Engagement background
The draft Plan has been informed by the aspirations shared during community consultation for the Community Vision, the Huon Valley Land Use and Development Strategy (LUDS) and the Community Views Survey (see links below).
Further targeted engagement was carried out with landowners, commercial stakeholders, developers, and infrastructure agencies to gather additional expertise and local insights.
About the Project
Purpose
This plan provides a strategic link between the state and local level planning policy. It applies the Regional Land Use Strategies (RLUSs) that define where development should occur including residential, commercial, industrial and community-based uses at a local level.
The Huonville Residential Precinct Structure Plan (The Plan) will inform the application of zoning and overlays in the Local Provisions Schedules, suggestions for re-zoning, and the preparation of Specific Area Plans or Particular Purpose Zones for places where a more unique integration of use and development is required.
Why do we need a plan?
This Plan establishes a long-term framework for future residential development, addressing current opportunities and challenges across the evolving precinct east of Main Street in Huonville.
It serves as a roadmap to enhance Huonville through strategic residential development, aligning broad community goals with coordinated planning and infrastructure delivery.
Three key aims underpin the preparation of this structure plan:
- To create a shared vision and identify land use strategies that promote sustainable development, enhance community resilience, and preserve Huonville's distinctive character.
- To implement relevant local and state planning strategies and policies.
- To ensure infrastructure, open space, and transport systems effectively serve the needs of a growing population.
