Geeveston is a small town situated in the heart of the Huon Valley, approximately 50 kilometres south of Hobart, serving as an important service centre for communities across the southern Huon Valley.

The town was established by and named after the Geeves family, who were among the earliest European settlers in the area, and their influence on the town's development is deeply woven into its identity.

Geeveston's history is closely tied to the timber and forestry industry, which shaped the town's economy and character throughout much of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and this heritage is proudly celebrated through the Geeveston Tourism Information Centre, located in the town's historic Town Hall.

Today, Geeveston serves as a gateway to some of the region's most spectacular natural assets, including the iconic Tahune AirWalk located in the surrounding wilderness. The town retains a strong sense of community pride and resilience, reflecting the hardworking character of its residents.

Geeveston sits within the traditional Country of the Lylequonny people of the South East Nation, whose deep connection to this land extends tens of thousands of years before European arrival.
