Background

Located 55km southwest of Hobart between the D'Entrecasteaux Channel and Huon River, Cygnet serves as a regional hub for the Huon Valley's smaller settlements. The township, 17km southeast of Huonville, faces mounting pressure from population growth and limited residential land capacity.

The Huon Valley Council has identified constraints affecting Cygnet's ability to provide diverse, affordable housing, including physical and environmental barriers impeding Future Urban zoned land development.

To address these challenges, Council is preparing a Structure Plan to guide Cygnet's strategic growth. The Plan will deliver recommendations for future development, with outcomes integrated into the Local Planning Scheme through tools like Specific Area Plans.
